Endocrine Surgery
Thyroid/Parathyroid/Adrenal Gland
In 1998, a ground-breaking article was published in the Annals of Surgery. In this study of 658 surgeons, "nearly two-thirds of the surgeons performed fewer than one thyroidectomy, on average, per year." Since then, more studies have confirmed the link between surgeon volume and improved outcomes and decreased complication rates. These results are also consistent for parathyroid exploration surgery. Dr. Lee completed his endocrine surgery fellowship at the Rochester, MN, Mayo Clinic in 2012. Since then, Dr. Lee has been performing thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal surgery with great success in the northern Monterey Bay region. He is the only surgeon that performs thyroid and parathyroid ultrasound in the office, including ultrasound-guided biopsies.
